A great result which justified the team's amazing performance, this match was one of the best displays by Zidane's lads this season. Though he was not physically present in the dugout yesterday, the cameras picked up his assistant David Bettoni talking to him on the phone several times.

Analysing the team's display, they didn't start the match very brightly, as in the first few minutes the team struggled to get out of their own half and connect passes. However, after that, it was only one way traffic.

The Varane and Militao partnership had a relatively good game as compared to their previous outings. Though, the latter could have done more to prevent Joselu from scoring.

In the middle of the park, Toni Kroos absolutely dominated the midfield and single-handedly controlled the tempo of the match, bagging two assists. Alongside him, Luka 'The Magician' Modric was an absolute treat to watch as he rolled back the years yet again with a sublime performance. He carved open the Alaves defence time and again with beautiful through balls over the top. Casemiro capped off an incredible display from the midfield, opening the scoring by simply heading the ball from a Toni Kroos corner.

Now, coming to the attackers. After several sub-par displays this season, the forwards finally found their mojo. Namely, Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema who had their best performance as a duo and it looks like they are finally getting on the same wave length and developing some chemistry on the pitch. Hazard's performance was reminiscent of his old days at Chelsea, and these kind of displays was the reason Real made him their most expensive signing ever. While it maybe too early to say he is 100% back, he seems closer to getting to that level that at any other point in his Real Madrid career yet.

This was a very good display overall and the players must bulid upon this and find consistency again with the business end of the CL coming, especially Hazard. He is crucial to us, if we are to progress past the UCL RO16 (Round of 16).

Β‘Hala Madrid!
